Three real friends - what someone called "wake then at 3 AM to come bail you out friends" - is actually a very good accomplishment.

How id you get these? First they were acquaintances, someone you met casually because you were in the same class or on the same line or something. You hit it off and became casual friends. You undoubtedly had more of those, but some never graduated into close friends and others did.

That's how it happens. Start saying Hi to people at work or school, build up a collection of new acquaintances and then let the friends arise from the pack.

27 and haven't had friend since I was 21 when the depression hit me

I'm so scared of making new friends or getting too close from people at work incase they find out I have no friends and would feel humiliated.

on the other hand I think I have become so used to being by myself that it would frightens me and makes me make up excuses when people have asked me to socialise with them.

if people ask me about my social life or what I got up to on the weekend should I be honest and say nothing I haven't got any friends any more.

or should I continue lying so they don't think less of me and reuse stories of when I used to go out regularly (which I hated)

even though I hate going out or having an active social life I am still ashamed of it.
