I want to move to England to be with my girlfriend but I know absolutely nothing about immigration. Anyone have any experience with visas, or just anything about immigrating to another country. Any help is appreciated.

Unless you're from the EU and hurry, you can't.
You have to have a visa. A tourist visa (the one they give you at the British airport when you arrive) has a 6 month limit and you can't work. A student visa has to be applied for in advance with evidence of school acceptance, lasts only as long as you're in school, and you can't work.
A work visa requires advance application and documents from an employer that you have a job waiting for you and that it's one you are uniquely fit for so you won't be stealing it from a Brit.
There are several roads to immigration but they all require extensive advance applications and evidence of savings and income to guarantee you won't go on the dole.
Of course, if you're from the EU, you just walk in and settle down. That's the main reason for Brexit

I'm not from the EU. I know it'll take a while, figured it'd take at least a year. Just wanted to make sure that I was on the right track.

Fuck off mate, we're full.
Unless you are a hispanic or latino woman.

Where are you from out of interest OP? I ask because it will likely affect your immigration process.
If you are from a commonwealth country like Canada and have 1 british grandparent you can get an ancestry visa almost instantly and stay there indefinitely

I'm American. So I'm at least white.
