Started dating my best friend after she had recently ended another relationship. I need third-person point of view, on this case. I'd accept any advice since I want my friend to be helped, yet situation is really vague and obscure and I don't know how to help him. I only give support and crib if something wrong happens, but unable to give an advice.

My only friend of twelve years has this particular girl, and she, I'd say, very hot (call her L). To cut a long story short, E has spread rumors that X was hitting on L, roughly speaking, and even managed to get her cheating. If she gives you a lot of romantic cues (like: wanting to hold hands, staring into each other's eyes, "this song reminds me of you", good morning/good night texts, getting giddy and flustered around you, being all over you with affection, giving little gifts and compliments, cooking or baking you things, pet names, spooning, drawn out painful goodbyes) then you can go for it. Start by saying how much you like her, how good you feel around her etc, and when she agrees, ask if she wants to make it official. If you are kissing sometimes but otherwise acting like bros, at most casually bring up how she feels about potentially having A relationship (not necessarily with you).

Ok. We already do a lot of that stuff. Constantly staring and smiling at each other until one of us looks away flustered, telling each other how much we're enjoying being together, getting excited at the next time we're going to hang out even in the middle of being together already, cuddling as we go to sleep, taking longer routes to her house or car so we can spend a little more time together as we playfully make excuses about it. There are no rules for this. In my opinion if you feel that this is what you want and that you're on the same page, there is no reason to delay. It gives clarity and (assuming that you aren't 100% unable to see through her faking it, which is incredibly unlikely) the worst case scenario is that she tells you she needs a bit more time. It's not like you're completely on the safe side by not asking it, either, because she might get anxious that you're not interested in something serious. Worst case scenario is that she does something (like go on a date with another guy) you feel was implicitly off limits and that creates resentment.

So I'd just do it now. It's awkward how to word it but honestly it doesn't matter. If she doesn't want to be your girlfriend it won't be because you didn't speak the magic words in the right order. If she does, she'll be way too happy that you asked to give a shit about how you did it. A relatively common way is to say "my friends call you my girlfriend/[whoever] thinks that you're my girlfriend... are you?" Or variations with being official or being a couple. Or you can go balls out and just straight up ask her to date you. Again, it's not the important part.

There is this grill who I'm chatting with, a 8/10, and we talk a lot. She has a bf.
