I went to look at a condo today and told the owner I would like to rent it. He did a background and credit check on me. I have not signed a lease or paid a deposit. I've had second thoughts about renting this condo and I was going to call him tomorrow and tell him I've changed my mind. Can I get in trouble or be legally held responsible?
>>
No but your credit score is still affected by the credit check. Be picky about when you let people run credit checks, too many and your score drops.
>>
Probably not, though it would depend on how much stock they put in you telling the landlord you want to rent it. If the law is retarded where you live, that could be enough.

How can I check the law? What should I search for
>>
>>18620415
Google tenancy law in your area or contact a lawyer. Many won't charge for something this quick.

Nigga what

You haven't paid, signed or even verbally said 'yes'. Do you think you get in trouble for walking into a store and not buying anything?
>>

>told the owner I would like to rent it
OP did say yes, which could be construed as a verbal contract if tenancy law where he lives allows for non-written leases.
>>
You SHOULD be totally fine. Check tenancy law in your muni if you're worried but highly unlikely you'll have any issues. Did you lay out any lease terms?
>>

I'm in Arizona and not finding anything about it. Do you happen to know?

All I am finding is about oral contracts where people are actually living in the residences and paying which I am not.

We just talked about the price which was listed in the ad and he said he would want a year lease. Nothing else?
>>
If you didn't sign anything, you're good.
