So I'm going to a big festival next week and I really want to make new friends and maybe hook up with someone. But I feel akward when I engage a conversation with strangers. How do I get over this ?

People love talking about themselves, so let them talk. Try to build up the courage to give some chick a compliment or something, maybe ask her a few questions about herself and see how you feel from there. Just stay relaxed and understand that you're not really going to mesh super well with everyone, so no pressure, who cares?
