Hey all I'm trying to figure out a legal yet satisfying way of dealing with package thieves in my neighborhood.
There's the classic box full of undesirables like dog poop or rotten food. But then I found people on YouTube who made exploding boxes.
After reading the laws of my state regarding "destructive devices", I believe the only legal way of making a thief in paint would be by releasing paint by means of compressed air.

If it is thin and water soluble, you could use a sprinkler. I suggest you use food coloring, stains good and is as harmless as you can get.
Get a barrel of water. Add half a gallon of food color. Put a pump in the barrel and a switch under the package. Fasten the sprinkler to the ground and do test, for the pumps ability to deliver pressure after having sat there for half a day and check your aim. You need not use dyed water for this. Do test how well the dyed water stains to find out needed concentration to save money.
