2 pieces of advice:
a) People fucking love talking about themselves, so ask people about themselves. Ask follow-up questions. Show that you're interested.

b) When talking about yourself, be enthusiastic. That is the #1 determiner. Talk about things that you find interesting, and your enthusiasm will carry over. Obviously you also have to be able to read a conversation and know when/if the other person is bored, and when it's time to change the subject. But yeah, talk about things that you enjoy.
