I emailed a company asking about a job I saw advertised. They told me to email my résumé and they would forward it to the appropriate person.
Should I put the résumé and cover letter in the same document or attach then separately?
Should I even bother with a cover letter as they only asked for the Résumé.

usually, give them what they ask for, but throwing in the cover letter wouldn't harm either. Make them both PDFs with properly formatted names like: John_Doe_Cover_Letter.PDF or something like that.
Oh, and better yet would be to show up, ask to see the manager, look him in the eye, give him a firm handshake and ask him when can you start. That'll do it, champ.
