I need to preface my story by saying that I have no mechanical experience and I am extremely incompetent working with this kind of stuff.
I bought a 2007 Honda Rebel almost a year ago and its been giving me tons of problems. The clutch ended up going out and asshole mechanics tried to charge me 400 dollarydoos to fix it. I attempted to fix it myself, breaking two clutch assemblies. I decided today that the bike isnt worth the the time or effort to fix by myself. I installed the latest clutch assembly, but I mustve reassembled it incorrectly because the clutch had no tension. Either way, I was planning on selling the bike after it was fixed to get a brand new one.
I want to upgrade to something more powerful, at least a 500. I like the classic style of the rebel or bikes like that, but I also like sports bikes and I'm not really sure which kind I want to buy
here are my options:
> New Honda Rebel 500
new take on classic style, but after dealing with the bullshit that was the internals of my motorcycle, I dont really want another rebel
>Kawasaki Ninja 650
>Honda CBR 650R (or maybe the CBR 500R)
looks like they only have one color scheme for them though now which sucks
>Yamaha YZF-R6
my buddy has one and swears by it, but I dont want to break the bank
>some kind of cruiser or cafe cruiser but I dont know any in particular
Things that are important for my purchase:
>dont want to break the bank
>motorcycle/manufacturer must be reliable and well made
>has to look good obviously, color options are important
I dont know much about motorcycles, but I love riding, please help

>$400 for a motorbike clutch
That's spot on the mark and you should have paid it because, as you found out, clutch changes aren't exactly engine mechanics 101.

$400 for changing a clutch in a bike I bought for $1700 that was maybe worth $1100. Plus I called another place and they said it'd only be like $250
Either way, that doesn't matter. I failed and dumped too much money (compared to $400 it's not much but still) into parts to justify spending even more money and time on the piece of shit

I bought a used 2012 R6 for $6k with only 3k miles on it. It now has 12k miles on it and hasn't had a single mechanical issue. I keep it on a trickle charge bc i dont ride daily. Other than that, diy oil changes, cleaning the chain, and tires are the only maint. I've had to do.

I know people have had good experiences with used bikes, my friend with the R6 got his used, but I just want to get a new bike so I ideally won't have to worry about too many mechanical issues until I graduate from college in a few years

>get the R6, new.
/thread
>>18603987
its like $12,000, I'm not spending that shit on a motorcycle
I'm willing to spend around half of that
>>18603927
anyone on /adv/ with any motorcycle experience?
>> New Honda Rebel 500
They're light and can take a beating, but won't give you a lot of oomf. If maintenance is expensive for this one, you''re being scammed. This was the bike I learned to ride on.
>>Kawasaki Ninja 650
Great intermediate bike. Again, can take a fuckin beating, GREAT mileage, come cool colors and styling, won't break the bank. Impresses girls if you don't go Kawi green. Never go Kawi green
>>Honda CBR 650R (or maybe the CBR 500R)
Not worth it. They're just shittier Ninjas and ugly as hell
>>Yamaha YZF-R6
Good bikes, looks awesome, but expensive and always have a ton of maintenance issues because lol yamaha. Anyone that has one will always swear how awesome it is because they spent a shit ton of money on it (This goes for FJ-09 fags too) but they eventually get a better bike and realize how shit it was. You won't be able to deal with the stock seat either, although again, the bike looks fucking cool, Yamaha styling is top tier.
>>some kind of cruiser or cafe cruiser but I dont know any in particular
Don't do this to yourself. You don't want a cruiser.
If you want the comfort, get a secondhand BMW or something. Big bikes though.
>>18603987
R6 is a meme. They just look cool and instagram loves them because instagram loves sucking Yamaha cock
>>18603927
Wouldn't it be less money out of your pocket if you paid the mechanic the $400? You won't get that much selling your now-broken bike.

Thanks this is exactly the kind of advice I've been looking for. I'll start checking out ninjas
I'll probably get a black one to match my helmet/jacket. I think the only other colors are white orange and green.
Why is kawi green bad?
