Do background checks include drug tests?

I worked at a grocery and they required a drug test. Always assume everyplace drug tests. 30 days sucks but necessary.

But I had another, higher security check at a different job and no test, I guess my question is, if they background check you and there is no drug check, what are the odds there will be one after the background check and can they surprise me with one or do they have to give me a heads up?

I heard about, applied, and got the job in the course of a week, it's too late for not using either way I'd fail a test. I'm asking if an employer is alowed to spring a test on me out of no where if I already consented to a background check that made no mention of a test

Of course you have to consent to a drug test. But they don't have to tell you in advance. They may make an offer based on passing a drug test since they don't want to test EVERY applicant.

Common sense on their part would be to let applicants know in advance to weed out the weeders and not have to spend money testing them.
