If you want a clean break-up, you'll do it in person.

If you don't care about how much you hurt them and care more about washing your hands of it, go ahead and do it by text. It is a certified dick move unless the girl is crazy.

Do it in person.
Not only will it be the nicer option but you will grow as a person, this type of situation is likely to happen again albeit not necessarily in the form of a relationship. Difficult confrontations are a part of life in general, if you hide from this one who knows what you'll be hiding from next.
