Do you guys have any advice for an insomniac like me? It takes like 3-4 hours to fall asleep, on worse days it goes up to 5-6. I just can't calm my mind. I tried to read before going to bed, or do some exercise. It only helps a little bit. I also tried weed right before sleep. That had the most effect, but I don't want to stuck on it.
I also don't really want to use medicine if possible. This is my 5th year like this, sometimes I feel like I'm going crazy.

Yes, both. ASMR never gave me the 'tingles', and it makes it even harder for me to sleep since somebody is whispering. Even if I hear a clock ticking in an other room, it keeps me awake even longer.

I once heard, if you have trouble falling asleep, you didn't work hard enough that day. Whether it be physical or mental, maybe a little bit of both, try to really strain yourself in some aspect each day. If the day is over, and all your work is done try exercising, but really exercise, break a real sweat, have a hot shower. Exhaustion is what puts you to sleep.

room dark, cool (65F) and only used for sleeping
no electronics at least 1 hour before bed
no food or snacks after 8PM
keep a sleep diary
try taking a melatonin supplement

You'll probably need to see a doctor if you've been an insomniac for 5 years tho

Idk man. I was in the same boat until just recently when I started taking benzos to sleep. Doc gave me nitrazepam. Slept for 11 hours last night.

I didn't wanna take meds either but my depression and anxiety is already on another planet and the insomnia was getting me close to suicide.

Tried basically everything too BTW. Only thing I didn't try was a gaba supplement, which actually works the same way as a benzo but is a bit more healthier. You could try that if you want but look man, at the end of the day you're going to need to get rid of that sleep debt and if sleeping meds are the only thing that's going to work then you might not have a choice.

You could try just taking one every third night or something so you don't get too dependent.

What kind of insomnia is it? Can't fall asleep or wake up in the middle of the night?

ive been there man. It was such a big part of my life that im literally making a movie about it right now.

there is no real answer. the best you can do is deal with it whatever way works while it works. for me what really helped was 1) regulation and 2) lack of stress and the final straw was 3) brain damage.

I was in a car crash that messed me up for about a month. afterwards i required to omuch sleep to have insomnia. not exactly a solution.

some nights what worked for me was reading for two hours before bed. other nights i would have to listen to the 'samurai pizza cats' radio play twice in a row, and fall asleep the second time through.

what helps the most though is consistency. if you arent NEET and have something to wake up for it keeps you going. stress is the next big thing. if you are say, in school, and didnt finish homework, that really stresses you out and keeps you up. as an adult i have less of that, but more things to worry about that i literally cannot do until the next day. in that case i make a list of everything that needs to be done so that i can rest knowing its out of my brain and not swirling around.
