I know it's what everyone says but for me cutting off all contact worked very well. I waited a year before trying it and within a month I was able to have feelings for other people again

the same thing. It's annoying me. I cut all contact besides Facebook. Doesn't post anything anyways. Work on making better yourself better.
I sadly have a job that let's me think about my ex all day. So I'm in the boat with you. Congrats you became obessive or in love. You stop this by focusing on yourself. Fix some issues you are unhappy with. Start working out. Get a new hobby. Hang with friends go be social. You'll also need time. As time goes on you'll feel better. Then it'll attract better people for you as well. Careful though perhaps it's wise not to fall hard again otherwise you'll end up constantly thinking about that person.
