How do I entertain fellow adults at a party?
I'm 26 and going to have a buddy (30) and his wife (31) over for dinner and wine in a few weeks. He and I have been friends for 10 years but exclusively talk through Steam or video games. The two of them don't really have friends and only play video games for fun, and tend to lack lots of social skills.
Given all that, how on earth can I make this a fun evening for the three of us? A board game? Arm wrestling? I mean, I'm the host of the party but I'm also the third wheel, so it can't be a date situation. Help!

I've been to 'proper adult' dinner parties and there just tends to be a lot of sitting around and talking, especially about 'adult' topics like politics

Fire up the old ps4 and do a playthrough of Bloodborne together, switching off the controller each time one of you dies.

Board games are good for people like this for sure

Normally that would probably work but this dinner party will be just three people and we're all three nerds. I don't know if conversation alone is sustainable

Not a bad idea. I wonder if I could find an old N64 game they hadn't played before. That could be a blast from the past.

Can you think of any particular board games that would work well for three players? I'd like it to be 1v1v1 instead of any possibility of 1v2

So talk about video games. Bringing out a game could come across as extremely forced

cards against humanity? not really a "game" just a way to make absurd and offensive jokes.

Carcassonne, Settlers of Catan, Dominion, 7 Wonders, etc. Games like that are basically 2-6/7/8 players, and three can usually play comfortably.

Not OP, but Cards Against Humanity doesn't really work when there's only three people. You really need 5 or more people

If you drink then a video game drinking game will be really fun and help you guys socialize

if they're video game nerds having something multi player, even if out of their normal interests will be just fine. a board game can also shake things up.
