I don't wanna waste petrol to go to the campus and I also don't like socializing;
Is there any reason for me to go for this? What is the purpose of this event, that they have to tell everyone that its compulsory to attend?

They want to introduce you to the school, the faculty, the resources, other students. They want to confirm that you exist, get some sense of your personality, needs, etc. They want to make sure you get all the literature, handouts, assignments, resources, etc you'll need by actually handing them to you.
There is a VERY good chance that if you don't go, you will sooner or later discover that you don't know or have something everyone else has.
