mind you I have had my gf from before social media was the absolute norm so there wasn't that much pressure.

feel bad for peeps these days. so much pressure .even having a Facebook but with low friend count or not much of a post/picture upload count is seen to be bad. apparently it's only cool to not post much if you used to do it heaps in the past (so you at least have that image/history set up about yourself)

I'm 18, haven't had a Facebook account since I was 13 and its caused me zero issues.

This one time however, this 10/10 girl asked me for my Facebook and I didn't have one so I said that and the conversation died and we never spoke again.

Facebook is quite a big thing in England. Even if you don't do anything on it. You are expected to use Facebook messenger for communication

I don't think they select based upon presence on facebook, I do think it's because they look your name up on facebook. Proceed not to find it and assume they had the wrong name. Haven't had a facebook or a cell phone for a year now and it's been an honest improvement to my life.

Like previous posters said, without social media you seem anti-social. If you are not connected to some sort of platform it looks like as if you never use the internet, which is quite rare among young people. Also I'd like to believe knowing some information about that person gives them a sense of security, people with no account whatsoever seem fishy, but that's just my opinion. Not everyone will care, having an account or not, you're being spied on anyways.

I have friends that I see regularly. Why would I tag them in things and post on Facebook so everyone in the world can see, when I could just text them privately instead?

I'm a grill in my early twenties and no fb. Tbh I'd rather a bloke I was dating didn't have it either cos it's jarring when people check their phones all the time etc but not a a dealbreaker.
