How to deal with addictions?

A trained therapist. A support group. Ask your family or friends to hold you accountable to abstain from using. It's hardest to beat addiction if you keep it to yourself.

Depending on the physical effects of withdrawl, you can get over the mental effects by locking yourself in with a friend for a few weeks to have him keep your mind off of it and keep you honest until it passes, though I dunno where you'd find that kind of friend if you don't have one
Started going to CBT last week. I can't say if it will help or not but I've made a point to cut back anyway. I'm still kinda paranoid my therapist will think I'm a stupid piece of shit. Why do people take these jobs... ?

Depends on the addiction. I've been clean from heroin and alcohol for 6 years from AA. Each person is different but that's what's worked for me.

Tongue in cheek, but they're specifically trained to deal with stupid pieces of shit so don't worry about that. You will be less of a stupid piece of shit as you progress.

Taking the steps to curb your addiction makes you way less of a stupid piece of shit than most other addicts he may deal with

I beat my porn addiction in just a year. It's hard but you learn a lot yourself when you try to do it yourself. You learn and try a lot of ways to beat it while a therapist suggests one or a hand ful of them. Therapists can be useful but only go to therapists if you are just too far in. In my case, I even watched porn during my lecture and my professor caught it in front of everyone. My mom caught me masturbating. Dad asked my phone to make a call and he accidentally clicked the gallery to find my stash of porn in it. I had a bad name last year but now I completely am over it. I don't masturbate at all now. I completely stopped porn. All these triggers over social media ain't doing nothing on me. I just scroll past or don't care if a bikini pic is near to a content I'm reading. I'm not against your statement at all but consider this as a add-on to your statement.
