I don't retain a lot of what I read or see. I forget literally everything about a movie/book after sometime. I read news but can't retain it. It is hurting my ability to have meaningful conversations and make friends. Please help me

Read the book titled "Moonwalking with Einstein", it's an investigation of a journalist with average memory into how memory works and how he trained himself into being a US champion of memorization. (yes it's a sport)

The analysis is quite interesting as it notes how we memorize things before and after invention of "external memory" like books, computers, etc.

There's also a tutorial to help you improve your memory. It's hard work, but rewarding.
