I have a windows and would really like to get into the computer programming industry that specifically focuses on creating instrumental music almost entirely digitally.
I'm also motivated by winning a bet. My snobby but very musically talented piano teacher doesn't believe I can do it. because 'I'm not dedicated enough' and to be honest he's right in regards to my piano practice. He says if I could replicate some sample music he's heard on an advert then he would buy me a piano.
So anons, I know this isn't tech but surely some of you must be musicfags, A/V fags, codefags etc...What's the best software I can learn to use in a few weeks or months?

Would it be good for something like this? I think it's a guitar synth.

Csound
DAW has little to do with it, unless the default plugins you get are perfect for it. Plugins are gonna be the primary helper. I'll take a listen when I get back inside and I might be able to help further.

assuming I understood your challenge correctly:
1. find a game engine or whatever setup, that allows you to pipe raw audio signal into a buffer
(SDL+whatever language, love2d, unreal engine?)
2. write a simplistic synth on top of it
just use 1-osc sine wave and lookup the frequency of each note on the net
3. add more oscillators and wave types (square, saw)
4. add DSP code, filters
4. check out how "piano" presets on other synths works (there's usually at least one capable synth for this in each DAW)
5. replicate those settings with your code
6. PROFIT! because you now have some pretty unique skills
