This is getting pretty far off OP's topic, but what do people actually believe?

I mean, I believe that those at the top of society will .. if not through intentional malicious acts then through unintentional or misguided ones like trying to ensure the best for their children, following habits taught in childhood while accessing resources which are normative and easily accessible to those classes perpetuate a system of classism, false meritocracy, wage slavery and so misery, debt and depravation for the majority of working people which condemns them to a life of drudgery, anti-intellectualism, nationalistic flag waving tendencies, violence and forcing their own children to accept the same conditions due to learned helplessness.

Those at the top are not friends of the working classes. Those slightly further down act as an economy to support those at the top and further entrench class divide and a lack of social mobility. They can't be blamed for it, they are just trying to be good parents, hard workers, but they create the perception that some people can through hard work and effort maintain their household even within the rigged wage slave system.

Can anybody say there isn't a level at the top of society who do little to no work yet enjoy the benefits of everybodies labour? These people will fuck you up to stay at the top. Beneath them are a level which are getting by, these people just want what is best for their families and don't even see their privilege. Through misguided ideology they enable the malicious ones at the top and pass blame onto those lower than themselves.

I think that I'm starting to sound like a communist, but I'm not. I am a socialist, but I'm not even sure what form it takes or even if it needs to. All issues can be argued in isolation rather than incorporated into one ideology.

Good parents will raise successful kids on the whole and those successful kids will continue the cycle and this is great and what we should be doing. But also be mindful of the benefits these families have above and beyond simple hard work when looking to make judgements.

I mean, if I interview a malnourished looking guy, dressed like shit with broken teeth and a thick accent associated with inner city living against a healthy looking well turned out dude with a nice cultured voice I'm going to favour the guy with the familiar voice because I want to be successful by surrounding myself with familiar people.

While I'm usually all up for some hate on the Muslims, for so many reasons, that library of alexandria thing is basically nonsense.

Any accounts of the Muslims destroying the library were made hundreds of years after the muslim force was meant to have done it, and the time they claim they destroyed it is itself hundreds of years after other, earlier events that might have also destroyed it.

Basically, its unlikely they actually did anything to the damn place.

Furthermore, what a lot of people don't know about the library of alexandria is that the people who ran it were sort of dicks. They were famous for stealing books whenever they could (especially from ships coming into port) and making cheap copies quickly to give back. Good for preserving knowledge, but not a great way of making friends.

The 'problem' with religious people - and yeah, can't say that without sounding a little fedora, but shut up - is that even pleasant ones form the power base for the lunatics.

A great non-islam example is the Pope. His beliefs are almost totally incompatible with the modern western world now. Not discriminating against gays, allowing abortion and being fine with contraception are all integral to civilized society.

So why does he still have power? Why can his words set Africa back fucking decades and still effect the world on any level, if the majority of his followers in the west dont really agree with his points?

Both parties don't really care that the marriage is over because they both know that is was over along ago, but neither wants to be the person who ends it because they come out the "bad" person at the end.
