I have to have a major surgery soon and it will be done under general anesthetic meaning that I will not be knocked out during it.

My greatest fear growing up was being abducted by a serial killer and having him cut my abdomen open and take all my organs out while I'm awake. I have had reoccurring nightmares aboutt this.

This is essentially what they are going to do when I get cut open in a few weeks minus the abduction and intent to kill me.

How can i cope?

I've had a lot of surgeries. I'm pretty used to it now. They give you a sedative and you fall asleep. It's a very restful sleep and you wake up in what seems to be a few seconds but it's really 1,2 3 hours later.

And every time I wake up I still have all my organs (except when they took out my prostate).

If you are under general anesthesia you will be knocked out and wont be awake for the procedure.

If you don't get the surgery, would you die?
If you will, then not getting the surgery means 100% of chance of dying vs a minimal chance of dying because of a stupid as fuck scenario you made on your mind, you have more chances of dying on the surgery than being kidnapped on a hospital.
It's an institution, they have security standards, if you are still afraid just let a family member or friend to go with you.

Tell us when you started having these nightmares, why you think you might be having them.
