Hey /adv/, I gave my computer a whack the other day out of frustration because I was tired from work and it kept messing around. Shit broke.
Now when I boot all I see is the manufacturer logo then the screen goes black. I'm pretty sure it's the hard drive because it's making some funky noises I've never heard before.
I don't know much about computers, is it as simple as buying a new hard drive and switching the old one out?
Help a retard out please, thanks.

I paid $100, been over two years and is still working fine
Forget to mention that it's a laptop.
Also, I don't care about the data, I just need a working computer again.

I'm not too experienced with this so you might need some confirmation on this.
See if you can access the BIOS. If you can, try and boot from usb (you'll need an operation system on it). I think this will allow you to see what has happened to the hard drive.
happened to me two times. buy a ssd and some kind of operating system then u should be fine
