sup /adv/. college dropout here.
I'm trying to write a resume, never had to do this, because I haven't had a "real" job in years. I'm a musician and play around town and do odd-jobs for a living. so basically my resume is about as valuable as a blank piece of paper.
how can I possibly get a real job in my condition? should I just suck it up and work at a McDonalds for a year...? hell, I'd take janitorial work, but they're always looking for someone with experience.

Do you have any friends you can put down as a reference? Do a little research on what ever job you want so you know what your talking about when you have the interview. Then if the call your refrence boom hired. Just don't break character, be confident.

can I just give them any friend as a reference? should they have some sort of credibility, or does it even matter? like... do they ask what I have done for that person, or do they just ask basic questions on reliability and the like?

Well your friend will have to put up a front that he's a manager of sorts or a business owner. When they call references they literally ask basic shit.
Was he tardy
What is his work ethic
Did he always come into work

just write down all your jobs youve had to show that you have had steady work experiance. Whatever your oddjobs were, just put "landscaping. I mowed lawns" ect or whatever your odd job was. Also put that you worked in entertainment and make your music gigs sound like work, which they are.

What jobs are you applying for?

instrument manufacturer/repair
Honest-looking passion for your work increases your chances

Assuming as a musician you have been maintaining your instrument. I'd expand on that as one of your key points.
Then if any of your other jobs have involved manual repair skills, put them high up the list as well. Also highlight customer facing stuff if the job requires it. Booking gigs, arranging pay, etc all require being able to be social.

Use teachers as references if any happened to like you in college. Most would be flattered if you ask permission to do this.
