I am going in for an appointment on the 17th for disability and am extremely nervous.

I have a crippling anxiety and a really bad speech impediment to the point where people cannot understand what im saying. Has anyone done this before and have any advice? I am attempting to get medical record right now. They said that the interview will last over an hour and I am getting nauseous just thinking about it now. I am applying for SSI, which is the one where you have never worked before...which I hear is much harder to get.
>>
I honestly don't buy the anxiety, aspergers disability people but in bongland you'd get loads of money for that. Doubt you would in the US since it's not a nanny state

>I honestly don't buy the anxiety, aspergers disability people

I truthfully wish I was physically disabled sometimes instead of what I have. It is much worse and not socially accepted imo
>>

I work for the State and if it's anything like the DDD, they're not there to see if you're faking or if it's really that bad. They just want to make sure they have accurate information. They base their decision on medical history and an actual medical review by their medical doctors. They mostly want to know if it has impacted you and whether or not you feel that you can work with whatever you have. Just be honest, their job isn't to weed people out.
>>
>>18500577

wait is their doctor going to be there or something? Am I supposed to go to them before hand?
>>
>>18500582
I sincerely doubt the doctor is going to be there at the same time of the interview. The way it works with our disability claims is that you first are interviewed by the eligibility specialist. They cover demographics, work history, what you have and what doctors you've gone to. Then they ask you to submit any relevant medical documentation (the more the better). Then they send a package to an actual doctor who may or may not want to see you. However, don't assume you have to bring anything the first day. They had to have told you what they were expecting when they set up interview. However; it doesn't hurt to bring documentation just in case, maybe expedite shit. Bear in mind SSI is strict but if you literally can't work, you'll likely get it, only people who get denied are capable of working but don't want to.

>>18500596
Eh I should add that all bets are off if the worker is an idiot, like they fuck up a detail or what not but you can't plan for that. We had a lawsuit where the worker took too long to process claim. Nothing can be done about stupid.

I really dont have much documentation, I went to a speech therapist last year and that is the latest thing I have. I contacted her and got her to write up a letter about my disability. And before that was several years ago from a doctor that prescribed me anxiety medication(which I no longer take because it didnt do anything). The rest has just been through speech therapy when I was in school, which I dont think I can get record of.
>>
>>18500617
Your prospect is not good then because to my understanding you need to have a thorough medical history and not worked for at least a year and conclusively use said disability as the reason. The speech impediment is insufficient for SSI, your best bet is the anxiety disorder, but if all you have is a random prescription from a doctor a few years ago, that won't be enough. Remember that doctors sometimes give that shit like candy

The Americans with Disabilities Act includes speaking and communication as major life activities. Why would it not count if I cannot even communicate with others in person properly?

Fucking leach - Go pick fruit in California

Not OP but fuck off. You can't understand a person until you are in their shoes. Humans are not invincible machines. I understand that there are dishonest people out there, but lumping in every disabled being as a liar or lazy takes some real fucking stupidity.

I have spent my 28 years as a single, friendless, misunderstood, and plagued human bean. If you would like to trade your problems for mine, I would gladly offer them in a heartbeat. I can already tell that you are far better off than most of us here.

This person is an ass but they aren't wrong.
>>18500575
Seems like op is deluded enough to think anxiety and a speech problem are worse than a physical disability. All your shit can be improved with therapy and yes there's jobs you can work online. Sounds like you've already decided you're less capable than people in too much physical pain to do basic necessary human functions though so good luck and I hear if you can get a disability lawyer they can get you there much quicker.

t. A literal cripple

>Seems like op is deluded enough to think anxiety and a speech problem are worse than a physical disability

pffft, ok dude. So people think you are mentally retarded and treat you like a child when you talk to them? A physical disability is much more socially acceptable.

>All your shit can be improved with therapy

and you obviously have no idea what you are talking about. I was in speech therapy since 2nd grade and am now 24 years old
>>
>>18501773
They can be worked through, but have you ever had anxieity? I used to break down crying in a cold sweat, feel my heart increase. It feels like youre going to die, it literally stopped me from leaving the house for 8 months.

Speech impediment, i would imagine trigger ops anxiety and just make it harder.

Op, go get help. Go to your gp and explain, bring someone with you if you need just go the meds and counselling do help.

If it hasnt already, the anxiety will lead to depression and those two together are a living nightmare
>>
>>18501438
Disability has to be proven, it's not given on a whim. And of all the corrupt government programs actually worthy of scrutiny. Jealousy much?
>>
>>18501783
>pffft, ok dude. So people think you are mentally retarded and treat you like a child when you talk to them? A physical disability is much more socially acceptable.
It is more socially acceptable to be physically disabled. Here's the thing though you didn't just say not socially accepted.

>It is much worse and not socially accepted imo
> It is much worse
That is what I take issue with. People talking down to you or being mean to you isn't on the same level. You have no concept of how much losing a major function effects your life with or without people around.

>and you obviously have no idea what you are talking about. I was in speech therapy since 2nd grade and am now 24 years old
Then learn fuckin sign language or something. I've known literal mutes who hold down jobs.

>>18501836
I've dealt with depression most of my life and was an agoraphobic for two years.
Even if I just couldn't possibly have had it on the same level as the op I guarantee you I have a pretty decent idea of what anxiety can do to a person.

I frankly don't give a shit if people get on disability for anxiety, but they made the comparison and then they stood by it. So as someone who's experienced both I'm saying it's a retarded comparison. I think OP is wallowing in self-pity and self-defeating bullshit.
