I don't know how I've gotten to this situation. Well, I do. I basically pretended to be someone I'm not and got this lovely, intelligent 9/10 girl to go out with me. Problem is, she's also a career focussed, relatively left wing (not an SJW, more classic left wing), agnostic atheist girl (we met in law school) and I'm conservative and christian. I just sort of, scooted around it.
I've really fallen hard for this girl, but I believe firmly in male provider/female housewife dynamics etc. Is there any way to change her way of thinking?

Now you decide what's more important to you: your relationship or religion. Can you coexist with someone who doesn't share all/the majority of your beliefs and values?
>>
>>18495706
a. if you're *simply a conservative*, and not one of these retards trying to defund foodstamps and planned parenthood, then the two of you can still get along. you said she's left-wing, but she's not Joseph Stalin, right?

Our world is very liberal and centrist at the moment. It's not a hard environment for right-leaning and left-leaning people to be friends. The truth about all these people dissolving their romantic partnerships and friendships over "political disagreements" is that one or both of them is a fucking cook.

b. you mentioned religion. would you really try to convert your partner? that could be problematic. can you see how that could be problematic?

tons of religious people see "agnostic" as a sign that someone can be brought into the light of the Christ, but all that means is that she recognizes atheists have no proof either.

No, not Stalin. The main issue is the housewife one.
>b. you mentioned religion. would you really try to convert your partner?
Potentially. It would be hard to bring her to my parents if she didn't have some form of belief. I don't know why it would be problematic- religion makes you a better, happier person.

>Gf said she'd break up with me for voting Trump
>Did
>Naked on my bed right now

cool story women.

Depends on how reasonable you two are. My gf at least knows that Sanders is a crook.
>>
>>18495744
>the main issue is the housewife one
what issue? since suffrage or whatever (maybe I'm not up on my history), women can do whatever they want. what you think she should be doing with her life is a non-issue.

like, I said, pay attention to your environment. this is liberal America. There's no way you're going to win *pressuring her* to be a stay-at-home mom, unless you have the big bucks or something.

There are definitely benefits to being a stay-at-home-mom. I agree with you. The problem is when the wife doesn't want to do it.

look on the bright side. public school and day care socializes. so long as you are willing to pay for the day care and live in a nice area, your child can reap a great benefit from those things. people make it their entire life's purpose to create a positive environment for the kiddos they're hired to look after.

anyway, I see your point. a housewife would be nice. it's just that my ideal version of a housewife is happy with being one.

>>18495744
>I would potentially want to convert her
right but dogmatic religion is struggling to stand on its hocus-pocus in a world that has more science and reason every day

>religion makes you a better, happier person
I can see why you think this, especially if you are an evangelical Christian. There's a lot to be said about the community aspect and making an effort to be a good person with a just existence. Are you sure she's not already interested in community and justice? Is appreciating Christianity as a symbolic religion from like 2000 years ago not enough, and she has to literally believe the zombie Jesus ascending to meet God in space story?

I'm just tired of seeing the same kind of jaded fucker win the presidency every term because of the masses' stupid tendencies, but you're right. it's not the end of the world. big strong daddy figure has been in charge of everything since we first started banging stones together. Looking at the Trump presidency so far, it's gone just fine, minus his big stupid personality and cheeto skin

I used to think that I could never date a girl with radically different political beliefs from mine. I could date a theist so long as she wasn't a fundie or homophobe and didn't expect me to convert or go to church, but I drew the line at politics, because I feel that has more to do with core values.

There's a friend of mine, I feel as though we have chemistry, though she has a boyfriend (she's breaking up with him soon because he's moving and she doesn't want to do LDR).

It was only after knowing her for a while that I found out she's a right-winger. She told me that "socialism is morally wrong."

My reaction

>This makes no difference to my dick

We have enough in common that I think it could work. We always talk about philosophy, both seem to be really interested in different fields.

I usually don't think it's worth arguing about politics, but I respect her enough that I'm not hesitant to debate her. We've sparred on religion and politics. We both respect each others' intelligence.

She seems to really admire her physicist father and takes up after him, getting her religious and political views from him, and being encouraged to be well read and think critically by him.

And the things she says she likes about me... seem to mirror how she speaks glowingly of her father.

I really can't wait until we have angry disagreement sex, where she forwards really strong arguments against me in order to impress her "daddy," and we climax simultaneously, her moaning "TAXATION IS THEFT" and me moaning "PROPERTY IS THEFT".

All it really takes is for you to be more open and accept other people that are not clones.
You don't need to be the same to be in a relationship, you just have to have "chimestry" to put it in a way.
If it really does bother you that much then you have two options:
A: Learn to look over these things and find a way to deal with them.
B: Keep up with your ideals and realize this is essential in your life no matter what.

Really I lean towards the first option most of the cases. Its the more "open minded" option. But its your life so you know what is right for you.
>>
My dude, politics ain't everything.
And about the religion stuff - just don't bother her with that (or talk to her about it) and don't bring it up. It'll just annoy the two of you.

Go for it my dude. Classic liberal is A O K.
>>
I'm in a similar position and I have had no problems so far. It works well okay - to disagree is to disagree, and nothing more. Follow your gut. If that feels good, you can overcome everything else.

hot desu
keep it in your pants until they breakup desu
>>
>>18496181
Yeah. She herself says that she isn't going to start lining up potential options before breaking up with him. Which I think is a good sign, because it means she isn't the type to hop from boyfriend to boyfriend and never be single. People who only stick with their SO's until something better comes along are usually selfish and insecure, and can't handle just breaking something off that they aren't enjoying without having certainty about their next relationship.
>>
Its because shes lovely and intelligent that she doesnt want to just be a housewife and wants to do more in her life. Consider that. Would you feel as strongly for a woman that is okay with settling for a housewife lifestyle because thats all she is capable of/has no other ambitions?
>>
If you are falling in love with someone of a different political orientation, it could be a sign you are on the wrong track politically yourself.

>>
>>18495706
No. Her political views, much like yours, are a reflection of her values. If you try to force her to change them she will begin to slowly resent you. Either you date her knowing you are never going to get what you want out of this relationship and that politics will always be a problem within the relationship or you dump her for someone whose values already match your own.
You can't make others change. Just doesn't work in the long term
