The more I think about it the more pissed off I get. This "best friend" and her talk a lot, and he's her emotional support. When she has anxiety attacks or whatever, she goes to him for support, which is understandable since I'm really bad at that kind of stuff. I didn't think much of it because I thought she should have her freedom and choice of friends. She also has mostly guy friends. I realize now that these are all major redflags. I was in the same boat as you eight oaths ago when I discovered she was fucking guys she met online at the hotel she works at as well as having an affair with her best guy friend she grew up with who was married. Our relationship wasnt the greatest either and I had a hard time giving her emotional support and live up to her standards of affection. But now that I'm mostly recovered, getting laid regularly has boosted my ego and helped with my self-esteem problems as well as the anxiety and depression which I think is what made her unhappy in the first place. She's with someone who makes her happy now and I'm on my way to finding that someone as well so things happened for a reason. Just keep reminding yourself that.

There's no easy way to deal with the loss of your father or the loss of your girlfriend (which is what this is, don't mistake it for anything else).

The fact is that if you two were having relationship problems, there should have been communication. Had there been proper communication, she wouldn't have had to cheat because she could have (1) left the relationship before things escalated to this point or (2) talked to you about her feelings and mentioned her displeasure with the relationship and the possibility of what consequences might be if things didn't change. By the sound of it, she did neither, which means that she doesn't respect you and also that she's too immature to handle a serious relationship.

4 years is a long time to be invested in someone, especially in the society we live in that promotes infidelity for the sake of "my body my choice" as a means to justify said infidelity because it's a personal freedom (like it would be my freedom to make crippled jokes to someone in a wheel chair, but I'd still be an asshole).

It's going to be the hardest thing to do, but you have to move on. Looking at her is going to remind you of what she's done, every positive thing in your relationship is going to be thought about as spite contrasted by her cheating, and every hope you have for trying to work things out is going to eat you alive. You can put in the effort and maybe things will work out, but what Hell are you willing to go through for a girl who didn't have that same level of respect for you? Making things work to cover up for her mistake is incredibly one-sided with her benefit in mind.

Take a break from women until you can recover and go to dating people who are more mature.
