I had a rough transition from High school to college. I began my career at a community college where I did not perform well at all. I had dropped and failed courses, ended up on academic probation, and dropped out for a year. After working in the restaurant industry, I decided that I needed to earn my credits (2.7 GPA), and transferred to a 4-year university.

My last two semesters at community college is where I solidified my love for biology.

At the University, I began coursework in biology, chemistry, physics, and mathematics. By the time I graduated, I earned a 3.86 GPA and graduated Magna Cum Laude. I had semesters where I conducted research, and balanced 18+ credit hours in courses such as Biochemistry, Microbiology, Physics, and Organic chemistry earning straight A’s. I have also completed A&P I & II courses with A’s.

I have also done research through NIH & Chicago CHEC, which may yield a publication in the future.

I also am not sure how important this is, but I balanced a huge amount of weight loss all while doing this. I went from 350lbs to 235lbs. I am much healthier, and exercise and eat well. This was an enormous lifestyle change for me.

I studied for my MCAT for 5 months, and earned a 498. I took the KAPLAN course, btw.

TLDR; Rough transition from high school to CC (2.7GPA @ CC); Then transferred to Tier 2 University (3.86GPA); Studied for 5 months for MCAT earned a 498.

Should I apply this cycle? Retake? I don’t mind going to the Caribbean, Mexico, Israel etc.

What are my options? Would love some realistic insight.

Thank you!
