Later this fall I will be going to the University of Michigan in the College of Engineering.
All Engineering freshman have to take an Algorithmic Thinking Test that determines your ability to think computationally.
This test along with other factors deriving from your background affect whether you are put in ENGR 101, the regular programming course, or ENGR 151, the accelerated programming course.
I took the test recently and personally got a 12/16 which translates to a 75 percent score. however during the test I did feel quite rushed, considering the 30 minute time limit.
The thing I want to know is that is this a relatively good score?
Personally, I did feel rushed, but computer programming is something I do on a regular basis on my own time.
I have extensive background in programming, and am one of the few people I know that regularly study it or use it in projects in their own time.
I feel that if I am put into ENGR 101, I won't feel challenged, as if it is anything like computing courses I've taken in high school, it will all be elementary material I've studied myself.
I feel that an accelerated course is the only place I can work with other people who are just as knowledgable and invested in computing as I am.
It's probably one of those things where the top 50% get put in 151 and the bottom 50% get put in 150, so there's really no way to tell since you don't know how well everyone else is going to do
