Well the general idea is to talk to them, ask the general questions and find a common thread or interesting topic of discussion.

All the while not giving away your whole life story yo, try to be at least a bit mysterious.

Don't do what thw guys above told you! The thing between men and women, implying that they find each other attractive, is psychology.
Any woman wants a guy "standing above her". By wanting to know so many things about her and asking those questions you lower yourself and take her a level above you because she is the one with the answers. The way to imo is to make her feel that you are the reward and she has to somehow "qualify" to hang out with you.
So it works like "I just date girls who do sport, do you do sports?" or "women who can't cook aren't interesting, I hope you do?"
