Desperate means that you'll do anything and change yourself for someone if it means they'll like you / fuck you. That or your standards are non existant and you'll take anyone as long as they give you attention.

It's mostly this. Desperation is being so starved for attention that you're practically begging for people to spend time with you and be around you to validate your existence, even if you're not saying it directly - all of your actions imply it.

Not everyone craves attention as much as other people, depending on their circumstances growing up and such. I've always had a large family (born into a family of 5, with a sixth shortly after I was born) so I've always been around people. I actually crave solidarity because I'm constantly surrounded by people and I'd rather have some alone time to do what I want to do without worrying about other people's needs and wants.
