My mom is becoming increasingly afraid of the outside. She asks my dad to carry a gun in their gate-guarded neighborhood if they go for a walk, she has fixed her house with floodlights, motion sensors, and cameras, and every door has 4-5 locks.
She asks me to call her when I leave my house and when I get back (which I don't), even if it's just a block.
It's very frustrating. If I can't fix it, how do I deal with it? I can barely get her out for a nice dinner up the street.
She may be OCD.
She needs a therapist if she's gone that far.

She is diagnosed OCD and refuses to go to a therapist - she believes they "can't do anything" and are "out to get her."

I guess I should append both of my posts - she used to be a model that explored the world and was the last thing you'd ever think of as a homebody. She's still got a lot going for her, but is just super afraid, for reasons I don't get. And she insists she isn't.

There's something about not being in control that bothers her.
Be normal. Remove 3 of the locks from all the doors. Tell your dad to stop carrying a gun. Go out more. Tell her she is disproportionately afraid and needs to confront it before it gets worse.
Don't let her watch the news.

I don't live with her, so I can't really do that. But the confrontation isn't a bad idea.

Yep, it's all she does... sit on the same spot on her couch, and watch the news, getting more and more afraid of the outside world.

yeah, this needs to stop. Nobody needs to have daily updates on shootings that happen 300 kilometres away.
