for non math majors I would recommend Gilbert Strang's linear algebra.

Also I would advise against learning completely new math concepts at the lecture if you don't already have a solid base on set theory and logic and familiar with theorem statements. Learn it before hand at home.
I understand that from calculus of one variable to differential equation is an easier transition since mathematics at this point is still to compute something, compute a solution, compute an integral, compute the wronskian, compute the Laplace transform etc. you don't have to deal with axiomatic view of familiar objects (like vector) while mathematical proofs are just for verifying cool stuffs people told you.
The format definitions - examples - theorem - proof was perhaps first encountered in linear algebra? idk if this is the case for your major.
