I'm graduating high school next week. I'm 18, and I need a summer job to help pay for college. I have never applied for a job before because I'm very uncomfortable interacting with other people.
Are there any summer jobs that wouldn't involve human interaction, and would provide decent pay? Also, any tips on actually applying to jobs?

You can't go through life being afraid of social interaction. Now is a good time to deal with it, before you leave college friendless and miserable and can't land a job because of it.

Also any job you're qualified for (i.e. a job anyone could do) is not going to pay much more than minimum wage, if that.

I've seen a therapist and two psychiatrists because it's extreme to the point where people don't remember what my voice sounds like and I can't stand even being outside during the day. I was diagnosed with Social Anxiety Disorder in fifth grade, which was when I began seeing the first psychiatrist. I started taking medication around a month ago, but so far it's not doing anything noticeable.
I just can't help it, I feel like if I interact with other people I'm going to fuck up, and they don't even want to talk to me anyways, and if I tried talking to people I would act like a spergoid fuckup and become a living joke and nobody would ever like me.

If you keep avoiding talking to people, you're going to end up a NEET, even if you do finish college. Is that what you want?

>first job
>decent pay

the only first jobs that give decent pay are jobs that require tips, which require interaction to get those tips. and even those are generally worked up to from bus boy.

but most first time jobs are going to involve interacting wtih people.

if your social anxiety is 'extreme' use your summer fixing that instead of preparing for four years of not being able to do group projects with classmates.

get whatever fucking job is offered (because a summer job that you havent even applied for by june 4th is almost impossible to get FYI) and use that as a way to build up your skills

It's not, but I just feel really uncomfortable talking to people to the point where if I go to parties I end up passing out or vomiting without even drinking. I'm extremely susceptible to panic attacks and I get worried just by people being able to see me.

>Are there any summer jobs that wouldn't involve human interaction
You could try for things like dishwasher or night time stocker, but most good paying jobs require good communication skills. Since you're planning on going to college, I assume some day you'll want a job that pays well. So, like that other guy said, this is probably a good time to get a customer-focused job to improve those skills.

>would provide decent pay
Honestly, an 18 year old high school grad with no prior experience and likely no marketable skillset? You'll be lucky to get a few cents more than minimum wage. Don't be picky, faggot. We all start at the bottom.

That's something you need to address before you try to do anything like get a job or even go to college. If that's not an exaggeration, you have bigger problems than not having money.

Do you disagree with what I said? If so, why?
What's your advice for OP?

Practice makes perfect.

I used to be like you. I got a job in hospitality while in college and also forced myself to go to social events on campus and now my social skills are improved 10-fold.

Yes, it's tough to go out of your comfort zone, but if you're too afraid to talk to people wanting to know which aisle the soda is in, how do you ever plan on having a real job when you have to deal with top-level management?
>>
I was like you mate, maybe not as extreme but I definitely had trouble socialising, lived in my own shell and was completely introverted.
The best thing for me was getting a checkout job at a grocery store. I know that sounds incredibly daunting but it really isn't. You'll get paid to work on your socialising skills. You can take it as slow as you want, you don't have to engage in conversation, just say 'hello', smile and scan their items.

Start out making conversation with older people. Old people generally love to have a conversation and talk about nothing, they also don't care if you suck at conversing. After a while you will find it easier to make small talk with people and you'll realise that it's honestly not a big deal.

The absolute worst thing you can do for yourself is to not adress your issue and try to correct it while you have the opportunity. Don't feel like it's too late, there are plenty of 18 year olds that are still shy and aren't great at socialising, just remember it's a skill that will get better the more you do it.

Don't avoid social situations, if you ever want to have a gf or friends you have to learn to fight your social anxiety, this could be a good time.
>>

>not adress the issue
There aren't many adults with social anxiety are there? Isn't it something that more or less goes away with time?

It goes away with practice

Best job for you is a job at Best Buy where you are forced to talk to people. The only way to get in the pool is to fucking get in already and quit twsting the water. Yeah its cold and it's jarring, but you're going to end up enjoying yourself SOONER if you just hop all the way in, get what I'm saying? You'll adjust. Life's short. Baptism by fire is the only way.

Hey, I hate to derail the discussion even slightly but I don't want to create another thread just for this quick question.
I'm applying at different jobs around my small town. Most of these jobs are low-level positions such as bagger, dishwasher, janitor etc. The thing is, all places I've applied to so far require to fill out an online application at their websites and they also have an option to submit your resume but it's not required. So, my question is: Do I need to come up with a resume for such a job as grocery store bagger? Also, if I don't get a reply from them within two weeks, should I call them or visit their location and ask how my application is coming through? Would it change anything? Would I only annoy them?
Thank you.
