Just qualified for a shitload of money in grants for college (I'm talking almost 20 grand) for the first time ever because I'm disabled (going blind) and poor
Thing is, my college is free and my rent is cheap enough that my disability covers it so I have no idea what to do with the money.
Obviously I'm going to spend a fair amount on things I need to make my daily life easier, and vidya gaem stuff, but that still leaves nearly the whole amount to just save up.
Firstly, gf and I are saving up to afford a surrogate mother (which should, by our estimates, be about $30K)
I stand to get about $80K-ish over the next few years of college, give or take a few for spending/saving our own moneys
It's free money and I can do whatever I want with it I suppose, so how do I go about saving/investing this wisely? I've never had this much money in my life and I'm just wondering what the fuck to do.

Oh, and TL;DR Poor anon suddenly comes into shitloads of free money, what do?
What is your disability?

I'm going blind, so the state is paying my way through a Master's so I can make a decent chunk of money before the blindness fully sets in and I'll have a marketable skill for once/if I get cured

Sucks.
I would open an investment account, put it in some not taxable mutual funds and forget about it for a few years.
Re-evaluate and get an account manager and get him/her to keep it growing.
My philosophy is that if you don't need it, forget about it and let it make you more money.

Fair point. I just don't know the first thing about asset management or how it might affect my disability income
