The key is whether or not they're getting treatment. I once dated a girl with untreated bipolar, and right now I'm dating a girl with BPD who's both on medication and attending therapy. My (now ex, trying to finesse her back) girl used to cut when she was younger, has anxiety, most likely is bipolar to a degree, was raped at the start of our relationship by my "best friend" and has been struggling with a xanax addiction. It's been a wild, on-and-off, torturous and meaningful ride.
