How do people accept being unattractive?

By youself only or by others too?

I think it's pretty rare for someone to think of themselves as unattractive in the sense that no-one is attracted to them, which is what I assume you're talking about.

I've known one such person, and honestly, she had good reason. She's a decent enough person, but actually unpleasant to look at. Basically a sphere with a face most charitably described as crude. Piss-poor complexion, tatty hair, the complete package.

Her appearance became an obsession bordering on mental illness as man after man turned her down after she'd had enough of waiting around for love to come knocking. Last I heard, she drank herself into oblivion and alienated everyone who cared about her. I wouldn't be surprised to learn that she was dead, to be honest.

For most people there's more to life than looks, but up to a certain point they're pretty damn important.

You'll get answers saying that 'most people aren't vain and there's more to life than looks' but.....

the real reason why you don't see people who don't accept ugliness is that they've killed themselves. If you experience that much distress about your appearance, your probably not going to be able to function academic wise or job wise and once that happens....you kill yourself.

not op but this sounds similar to what im going through. My face is hideous and my self hatred has caused me to have no motivation for anything. I am trying to get a job for surgery but honestly I think they are less inclined to hire me because of my appearance, it doesnt help that im shy.
would you mind describing more what she looks like or even have a pic? I just wonder if she looks anything like me.

Life, or society, tends to push ugly and sometimes even plain people to the fringes unless they have something to offer.

I have the same thing reversed, I've always been told I'm nice looking but emotionally cold as a fucking rock, hard to get people close to me being like that, and it's not like I have a fucking button to switch my personality

I won't post a pic and I don't think it would help you anyway. I obviously don't know if you have good reason to think of yourself as entirely unattractive. Maybe you do, in which case some aspects of life are simply going to be harder for you. Potential employers are going to take your appearance into consideration wether they mean to or not, no point in pretending otherwise. It doesn't mean it's impossible, and it doesn't mean you should give up. I've never struggled with similar issues myself, but I can only imagine that getting so hung up on things that are in large part out of your control makes properly moving through life extremely difficult. I'd encourage you to seek professional help to aid in the effort to rise above your insecurities, if only to get you to a point at which you can change yourself to your liking, if that's a route you wish to take.

Half of reality is the meaning you project onto other people's actions, etc. If you get struck by lightning, you might think god's angry at you but in reality you were just standing outside in a storm like a dumbass.

What I'm saying is, you likely need to change your perspective first. Good things tend to happen when you project good things onto the world.
