Suffering?

Dude watch Akame Ga Kill. Fucking amazing anime if your looking for edgy with suffering. The protagonist is a normal who ends up an assassin's guild trying to overthrow a tyrannical government. Great fight scenes between the "good" guys and the Gov black ops. Great character development too, on both sides of the conflict.

Rin: daughters of Msenosyme, When They Cry, School Days, Master of Martial Hearts (only last episode is super edgy), Texhnolyze (actually amazing), WYXOSS, Hunter x Hunter 2011 gets super shonen edgy in the latter half

Elfen Lied, Gantz, Genocyber, Tokyo Ghoul, Texhnolyze, Kaiji, Midori Shoujo Tsubaki, Kite, Urotsukidoji.

Most of these are pretty bad, but I guess if you wanted good shows you'd be looking for grimdark.
