I forgot my dad's birthday. How do I make up for my fuck up

If his birthday was during the week, plan some kind of celebration for the upcoming weekend and pretend that was your plan all along.

I am not in my hometown in the weekend

Send a gift in the mail then. Tell him it must have gotten lost and just hope he doesn't check the date it was shipped when it gets there.
Alternatively, you could try apologizing and making it up by giving a nicer gift than usual.
how long ago was it?

ah yeeeeah, that's not so bad. call and act as if it's no big deal. congratulate him and as a gift, i would give him something to do together. what do we know what he likes. maybe he lieks sport events, or has a fav place to eat, or always wanted to eide a hot air balloon...

fun story OP.
I must've been 13 when I went to visit Rome with my mother. We were cruising on a guided tour organised by this reputable history professor and her phone wouldn't stop ringing. I was frowning aggressively as I couldn't understand how she could ruin her experience like this - and possibly everyone else's. Her replies mainly consisted of numerous 'thank you's', but I was too much of a retard to make the connection.
Fast forward to the following day. "I'm sorry for being such a dick. I wasn't keeping track of time and totally forgot what day it was yesterday. The jovial 'thank you's' with which you picked up your calls didn't tip me off either... Happy belated birthday, mom"
