How do you know if someone is really there for you?

/lit usually does ethics. Can they see you and would they help you are the first two questions. But even then it's debatable.

Some guy created a mathematical equation disproving altruism. It drove him mad.
Oh shit I'm sorry, and what if you were in a relationship with them, and you were just treated like crap for a solid year, and they said don't worry I'm here, but they agreed with the viewpoints that most of the people had.
My dad was deployed to Iraq in 2005, it was just my mom and my 1 year old brother and me. My mom asked for help but no one helped us except for my grandparents, and people said, they support veterans, and people also say that they help families in need. But no one was there and we almost died.

But you still helped each other. Perhaps if you'd have asked for help they'd have been someone else to help as well?
We did ask for help, you know what our commanding officer told my mom, "you should have gotten your kids aborted, then you wouldn't have to worry about them"
