Sorry anon, that sounds rough. You were probably acting like a flaming fanboy and your professor probably was in a bad mood, high rollers like him usually are facetious/two-faced (charismatic sometimes but often cutthroat/unsympathetic) so, put two-and-two together.

>invited to sit at the table with famous people
>talk to a lot of devs and you seem to blend in fine before the last day
Remember, you don't have it too bad. You got that much. Oh, and don't forget: you AREN'T actually an game developer. Know your place. At least until you get used to the scene.

Chill. You got a great job. Just learn from this shit.

Oh and if you wanna risk further emotional damage, you could always contact him on facebook and ask politely how you could improve the way you present yourself, etc.. It could give some closure. Maybe he may treat you better. I dunno if this would be a sperg move, though. Anons would have to discuss this.
>>
Thank you for this answer. I tried not to act like a fanboy, I made sure not to ask anyone for selfies or anything, my proffesor even said something like "And you're feelong completely relaxed around them" in an accusing tone. Lol
I completely understand where hes coming from, he surely gets that a lot at all events but im not sure why he waited until the last day to tell me this in this really shitty way instead of telling me straight away and not make me feel like shit in the process.
>>
>>18291686
actually he sounds like a bit of a bitch. especially this
>"And you're feelong completely relaxed around them" in an accusing tone.
probably doesn't like the idea of being upstaged.

don't worry about it, you're learning the ropes, he's on his period. plus, what the other anon said. I wouldn't bother contacting him though.
>>
>>18291686
Huh, interesting. So he was around you, judging you, through the few days? Did he remember you were his student? I mean I initially kind of thought the table was where the big business talk was going on...and so he had a reason to tell you off.

To know for sure what went "wrong" you'd really just have to contact him. If I were in your shoes it'd bring me comfort and closure to talk it out. Sometimes it's better to adopt more of a humble"apprentice's" mindset than just act like the chum of the big game devs.

Could be a good move for your future if he actually does advise you. You don't wanna fuck up again, might hurt your career.
>>
>>18291714
Yeah, if OP can get over it on his own keeping quiet would be for the best.

I still don't know how big of a bitch the ex-prof really was. I dunno what OP was doing or saying to everyone. It's just a bit of a mystery.
>>
>>18291735
well, we know he wasn't taking silly selfies or acting the tool, and the prof said he was "relaxed", which I would take positively rather than as a reproach as seemingly intended. maybe the prof is another sperglord and on here too?
>>
He made his point clearly so I dont think im going to contact him any more when he JUST told me im too pushy and take too much of his attnetion. I think I know where I went wrong, I just jumped on this opportunity to spend time with them and didnt think if im actually bothering anyone. We did talk for a second and I understand what he meant but BOY was he pissed off. He did remember me and he did say "This is why im cutting stufents off these days theyre just all over me". Sigh.
>>
>>18291743
>talk for a tiny bit
>you're all over him
>yet manage to be "too relaxed"
What the fuck. That's some weird shit. He's really all over the place.

So what type of advice are you looking for? You can't possibly mean "kys".
>>
I dont think i said anything inappropriate, we talked about quests in games and I talked dresses with Meagan, she actually approached me today on her own to give me some tomb raider gadgets. I just talked to them normally about whatever topic came up.
>>
>>18291759
OP was probably too casual and crossed some sort of boundary without realizing. It's hard to tell but it would be an easy mistake to make.
>>
I think I'm looking for more of outside perspective than any actual advice. Im too embarassed to talk to any of my real life friends and i still dont know what to think about it.
>>
Update: A [major video games composer] asked me personally if I want to go grab some drinks with him and some other people in the coctail bar and I was really conflicted about going but my friends were going so I sorta tagged along. Lo and behold, 5 minutes later my professor comes in, sees me, puts on the fakest smile on earth and says "GOOD EVENING" in this really passive aggresive way. I stayed 5 more minutes amd left to the hotel cause I dont need this kind of negativity in my life. Now ill probably cry.
>>
>>18292347
next time don't leave and act normal
>>
Well what I considered "acting normal" got me into the trouble in the first place so....
>>
>>18292347
You're getting career cucked by you old professor. Stop being his little bitch OP.
>>
>>18292391
ask the professor why he's doing it, for better effect do it in front of a few people. its probably that he's a professor and has a shit life and seeing you get involved so easily triggered him
>>
>>18292402
Avoiding the prof is one thing, but don't let him chase you away when you're having a good/productive time with somebody else
>>
>>18292347
Oh my fuck, this is getting crazier and crazier. I take back all I suggested about maybe getting into contact with him. He's a bitter asshole with some sort of complex going on.
I almost can't believe this is actually happening. It's like it's all being made up. What's with all these coincidences?

Anyways, what the other anon said about him being jealous is very likely to be true. Please embrace this idea...don't get smug, but use it as a bulwark against your negativity. It's silly that you actually said "I don't need this kind of negativity in my life!"

Just chill out. Seems like he gets off of intimidating greenhorns.
>>
You are so insecure OP
Why you care about what your teacher says
Just say to him "Fuck off fat wanker", and do what you want, problem solved
>>
Ok, I'm home now and you anons made me feel a bit better about the whole situation thank you. I did write and apologize again, looking back I might have acted a bit overwhelming, trying to be the charismatic funny girl when I should have just be grateful for an opportunity to learn and listen.
Tommorow I will have to tell the whole story to my boss though before the story reaches him from some different source.
Hopefully I will do better next time.
I still kind of low key want to jump off the window but I guess ill just fuck up some bitches in overwatch and perhaps it will make me feel a bit better.

Kudos!
>>
>>18293864
why are you apologising when he's the one who's being the dick, I get maybe the first apology but rn you look like a fucking idiot
>>
>>18294425
Well I wanted to explain to him that I went to the coctail bar with my friend and didnt even speak to famous people that were there. I just thought it looked terrible after the conversation we had and really felt the need to explain this to him. Truth be told, I still feel so bad after this, I saw my friend today and seriously couldnt find joy in anything and every passing second I feel like I really did act like a total idiot and I just murdered my career.

I just don't take people openly hating me well.
>>
>>18293864
op, didn't expect you were a girl as well.

That's kind of interesting though. You sure your gender wasn't the thing he had an issue with? I mean that because if you're attractive/young and you were up in every guy's business, then maybe he took issue with that or read into it. It's possible, you'd be surprised.

Make sure you are really careful about retelling your story to your boss. Keep it brief, and probably frame it as more like you're asking for your boss's advice on how to behave in certain networking situations.
>>
>>18294986
Yes I am a girl, very tall, I dont consider myself extremely pretty though. I didn't only talk to guys, I'm just a person that socialises easily and I think you would have to make A LOT of exaggerations to interpretate it as me trying to pick someone up. Honestly. But I think me being a girl made it kinda easier for him to be so rude to me. I see that a lot.

I'm actually not that worried about talking to my boss - he knew me back at the uni, when he opened the company he asked for me specifically because he liked the volunteering and the student council work I was doing, and I know the industry well. He's a really great guy and likes me personally. He knew well that this was my first big event and that I was nervous about this a lot and he was just telling me not to worry and just have fun. So I think I will be okay telling him this, altough I will of course downplay it a little.
>>
>>18295135
I feel happy for you You do have your issues with being irrationally sensitive sometimes but seems like you have your fair share of people rooting for you.

As for the ex-professor, I def think there was some sort of prejudice working there or maybe judged you based off of other experiences he had of girls in the industry. Ultimately it's a mystery. Wish I knew him and could figure it out.
>>
>>18295157
Well, he was always very nice, when he gave us critiques regarding our work he seemed very considerate so I was quite shocked because it's so different from what I knew about him.

But he's also extremely handsome, wears original clothes and is considered sort of one of the local gamedev royalty. I think he was just thins kind of guy thats nice when you're below him but is really fierce when it comes to his career? Dunno. I honestly can't imagine what someone would have to do to me for me to act so rude though....
>>
>>18295176
Whoa. Didn't expect that.

Actually, what he said about
>students being all over him
makes sense now. What he meant is probably that girls were all over him.
>>
>>18295176
Oh yeah, you're assuming too much. You're kind of naive when it comes to other people.

Kindness and consideration can be a mask to some people, especially the more charismatic ones.
>>
>>18295181
Oh no, he actually meant that every time he goes to event there's some students of his wanting to use him as a way to talk to the Big Names because he's so friendly with everyone and stuff. But he actually didn't introduce me to anyone, I found a way of chatting with them on my own... : /

I really hope I didn't burn some serious bridges there for myself or my company though. I don't mind him hating me that much. I just worry about fucking things up professionally for myself or my boss.
>>
>>18295209
Ooooh, I see. He seems kind of cynically dumb, honestly. You weren't doing anything like that, yet he viciously implied and assumed otherwise based off what his other students said.

To be honest I don't think most of the devs would care to remember you or your company as long as you weren't going on and on about it, and burning the bridge with some art director really isn't all that big of an idea.
No bridges should have been burned.

by idea don't you mean deal?

>boss hearing about it
anyways op no one in at the party probably cared. do you have reason to suspect what you did was bad enough for people to gossip about it?
>>
I dont think anyone will gossip or remember it, but my professor personally is one of the most successful devs in my country so I'm worried that eventually we'll want to do business with him (as he works for the university we're cooperating with, soa it is pretty possible) or need some favour from him and it will be impossible to negotiate anything because he pretty much hates me as a person now.
That's the exact opposite of what I was supposed to achieve on this event.
>>
>>18291686
Dude, i dont know him and i wasnt there:
His behaviour to me though bleeds jealousy.

Sounds like they really liked you, and you made a rock star of yourself to them.

Judging your teachers behaviour ill bet they dont like him much and work with him because they have to. He may have even worked for years and had to get among their circle with skill and ability and hard work and saw you roll up all cool and smooth and charismatic and watched them just bring you right in.

From rhe way the entire story went up until that shit moment, id say they probably still like you fine and your teacher made an asshat of himself. They probably even talked later like "man hes such a bitch always acting like this. That kid was cool shit!"

Honestly im less interested in your social faux pas and more interested in whether or not you secured contacts.
>>
>>18295326
>my country
You live in the United States. That man's not one of the most successful game devs, he's just an art director. He honestly is a nonissue.
>>
>>18295335
Oh, do I sound like a native? I'm actually not from the states at all, I'm from Europe.

>>18295329
This is such a nice thing to say and while I don't think it's very likely at all it's nice to imagine that it was actually it! : v So thank you, Anon!
>>
>>18295343
Erm, then why were you with Chris Avellone? Were you actually flown overseas for this or something?

My point still stands that this man is a nonissue and that it'd be random if, among so many, he was handpicked to collaborate with your company. There was no bridge to even burn there.
>>
>>18295343
Which country?
>>
>>18295353
He came to a conference in Europe, just like everyone there.

I guess I just worry to much because I love this job so much and I'm so ashamed of doing so bad on Babby'sFirstConferenceâ„¢ I actually might be blowing this out of proportion.

Jesus I should just get a chill job at a grocery store.
>>
>>18295387
Oh, you're precious and sound a bit like the type to have a serious case of imposter's syndrome.

I honestly think it's a realistic/feasible conclusion that you didn't do too badly. Trust me. Even what your asshole professor said wasn't terrible. No, I really mean it. Just use your imagination. It literally could have been so much worse.

Please continue to work hard and care about your job. I'm almost jealous of it (though maybe that isn't saying much coming from a college student like me), it's so cool to be able to work for a company you probably believe in and with people who are chill as fuck. There's not all that much pressure besides that created by your love is this position.
>>
Ok so if anyone's still here and is interested in the aftermath: my boss called me today about a meeting and asked how was the conference. I sort of wanted to talk to him face to face but I just couldnt handle it and blurted everything that happened, and I'm pretty sure he could hear my voice cracking. I was pretty collected about it beforehand but the moment I started telling him what happened I barely held my tears back. I must seem pretty pathetic now to you, Anons.
Anyways he listened to the brief version of the story and actually seemed mostly concerned about me, told me not to worry. I didn't know that my professor was supposed to go to China with us to some gaming festival and now my boss sounded like he's rethinking taking him. What do you know.

Anyways thank for your kind words anons. Being able to talk to you was such a blessing and made me feel a bit better during those rough 2 days.
