What jobs are there for an American in Europe that are both in-demand and not mentally/physically exhausting? I've always wanted to live abroad, and I'm about to start college, but I'm not sure what to pick.

teach English.

Isn't it very difficult to get those jobs unless you have a ton of experience?
>>
>>18267881
Nope, all you have to do is take a ESOL teaching test. Don't know if there's a standardised European version, some countries might have their own thing, but most are in the neighbourhood of $1K and you get accreditation. If it's sounds appealing, google it, I'm not capable nor willing to chaperone you through European bureaucracies.

Got it. The Czech Republic actually looks like a nice place for that. Do you know if TEFL in Europe is similar to Japan in that there's little to no opportunity for advancement?
>>
>>18267910
not sure, but intuitively, since I'm familiar with schools in continental Europe, I'd say yes - for political reasons. Schools are pretty much a caste system. Some do like to make trophy-teachers out of TEFLs, if they think you're good PR, but I wouldn't count on that. Look into it famalam.

Sounds kind of shitty, especially with the low pay and little respect. I was hoping more for a specific job in a STEM field or otherwise that pays well but doesn't suck the life out of you. Do you know of anything like that?
>>
>>18268019
If you go into STEM, make sure you make it mentally taxing while you're in college. Once you graduate there are numerous EC funded research programs that aren't that mentally taxing. Some do get frustrating if you actually care about your field though.

There are tons and tons of jobs in STEM. Surely there must be something that's both widely sought-after and not too exhausting. Isn't IT work supposed to be that way, for example?
>>
>"I want a job that is in demand but I don't actually have to work hard at :("
>gets told about a job that is in high demand and requires little work
>"it's not good enough for me :("
What a unique position you're in, OP! It's not like there are hundreds of millions of special snowflakes that feel this exact same way!

Jokes aside; if you truly feel that your destiny is to be a lazy and ungrateful cunt, NEEThood is likely your best bet.

I never said I wasn't willing to work, I just don't want an extremely demanding job like being a nurse, or anything else where you'll have ridiculous hours. Don't be so quick to hate, please.
>>
>>18268736
Unfortunately for you, "physically/mentally exhausting" jobs are where the majority of the high-paying, high prestige work is. Grow a pair of testicles (or ovaries), or go on the dole.
>>

I'm willing to accept a difficult job, I was only asking for something that wouldn't completely exhaust me. There is a difference between difficult work and work that overwhelms you with the requirements it makes either time-wise or energy-wise. You're going to call me lazy for this, no doubt, but I did work a part-time job as a cashier alongside advanced classes at high school, and that was passable. What isn't passable is a job that will wear me out to the extent that I don't have the ability to enjoy life outside of it, which is supposedly true for certain medical professions I've read about. I made this thread for the intention of finding specific jobs that fit this balance well, because right now I have the potential to pursue any job I choose, and I'm willing to listen to any suggestion if you have any, but if not, I'd kindly invite you to leave the thread.
