So I just recently came back home after a visit from a psychologist. I would like to know if thee people even help at all.

I have OCD, bipolar depression and social phobia. So basically it was my first time at such place, I was talking to this nice woman for an hour basically it was me talking and she was taking notes and sometimes asking questions. She took 25 dollars and I have another appointment next week.

My question is - is this is? Me talking about my life stories, how everything went and how things are going now? Because if so, I can do it myself with myself. Or is she gonna do something on next visits? She said that the initial process didn't end (I stopped at middle school stories and I have high school left to tell her about) and next time I am supposed to tell the rest and she said she will give me some plan on how to work with me.

Does it all make sense? Was I just fucked for 25 dollars? Should I go straight to a psychiatrist for meds?

it takes a few sessions for the psychologist to come to any kind of helpful diagnosis. What you think you have and what you actually have might be two very different things. The psychologist is also looking for things that are not obvious to you.

In the US (at least, in programs that I've been exposed to through friends working as therapists, it could be different in certain areas), you won't generally be able to JUST go to a psychiatrist. They're WAY too busy for that. They usually work by having therapists see patients and take notes and make a diagnosis and write reports, which the psychiatrist reads to make the medical decisions like what course of treatment to pursue (if it is pills) or kicks it back to the therapist (if it is something that can be worked through with therapy alone).

one final point, $25 is a fucking steal for a therapy appointment.

Here in Poland it is the same, you can not get to psychiatrist just like that. That's why I went to a psychologist, I think you call them therapists. I think it works the same way. I think I will need pills though.

So how many times will I have to go to that therapist until she decides anything? Because I will go broke if I will have to pay 25 dollars each week for too long lol.

in the US they have a limited number of sessions, depending on your insurance, to come to a diagnosis. At which point they can start treatment which may begin with you seeing the psychiatrist for meds, then more or less frequent sessions, depending on how your disorders are. The ones you're describing usually need weekly sessions, if not more frequent, in addition to meds (which themselves take a few weeks to kick in), to see any real changes to your quality of life.

usually it's 3 or 4 but I think it can be up to 6 or 7 depending on the insurance or what they think the diagnosis might be.

Is $25 a lot of money in Poland? I'm not sure the exchange rate. in the US a therapy session can cos between 100-200+ without insurance, depending on the type of therapist you're seeing (psychoanalysts charge a LOT sometimes).

$25 would be 100zł in Poland, it's not THAT much, unless you are a NEET like me. My mom makes about 4000zł monthly add or take from this.

So I don't care, it's not my fault I have to see specialists and I shouldn't feel bad that she has to pay for me.

I see. That's not super terrible.

As you get things under control, ideally, you see the therapist less and less often. that could take some time though.

So through this time I am supposed to pay? Darn it.

Is this your cost after insurance? Insurance usually picks up some of that cost in the US.

You're a NEET you said, so you don't have a uni you can go through for a student health service kind of office. I'd check if a uni near you has a low cost clinic though (especially if you don't have insurance, IDK what Poland's health care is like).

In the US, colleges and universities sometimes run low cost clinics that are run by the students of the therapy programs. That might mitigate some of the burden.

No, it's not after insurance. That's 100% private, full price. IDK about our health care system too much either xD I will have to find some more informations. Thanks for the help.
