I suffer major depression and social anxiety. I was told because I'm troubled to seek a religion of some sort. Is there a proper book or website that teaches principle Buddhist values?

Tibetan Book of the Dead. I'm in the same boat as you and just started. That or type in Buddhist scriptures into google or something. That'll give you a shitload of stuff to choose from
