First thing you could do is to stop bringing the topic of an ex up. Second, change the topic to something that would make him feel better such as complimenting his personality or how he does his hair. Third, when he mentions how all the girls want your ex tell him something cheesy like "Not all the girls. I picked you over him"

He texts me sometimes, I ignore him. We meet from time to time with other friends.
Sometimes I mention my ex if I saw him that night, or if I'm telling a story about my youth that involve him.
