worst that can happen is a small fine and or jail time
you're fine
If you would be getting a refund it's not a big deal at all. I did my brother's taxes from last year a couple months ago but because it was late he couldn't efile it so he had to mail it and he can't file his current taxes until his late one is accepted. But I have no idea if he mailed it or not yet (I did it all for him and printed it out and gave him the info on where to mail it but I told him he was going to be the one to mail it) and if he didn't then looks like he's waiting awhile to do his current taxes.
OP here. Im joining The military by the end of this month. I just dont want this on my record and prevent me from going to the basic training.

If most of your income was from employment, then withholding was taken off every paycheck. Withholding is always figured at more than you'll actually owe - that's why most people get a refund when they file.
So the worst that will happen is that you will have paid the IRS more than you needed to - and they won't complain about that.
You can file late, and there's only a penalty if you owe them more, which is unlikely. So file late and just get your refund late.
