I'm considering what to go to college for. I've always had an interest in music and psychology - I'm thinking about it all the time, but I've discovered that life is a little bit cutthroat, and people in general are a little bit ridiculous, so maybe I don't want to go to school for art or philosophy.
I've thought about being a medical doctor, but something about most of the environments medical doctors work in seems less than desirable to me, not to mention the ridiculous hours and mental stress they incur.
What about being a dentist, though? Is that a good idea? It seems a little bit more relaxing and positive than dealing with sick patients. Going to the dentist, unless you're phobic, is a relatively painless (and hopefully you consider it necessary) procedure. I even had three route canals and caps, yet my life is completely unchanged, since even the cheap plastic caps are convincing to most people.
I'm looking at the Bureau of Labor Statistics, and it says the average dentist makes $160,000 per year, and that the profession has been growing at a rate of 18% this decade.
What do you think?
You say that like anyone can become a dentist.

I'm not looking for encouragement, just thoughtful and informative input from someone in college or graduate school.
If you are a dentist, your whole world is a mouth.
