I have written a 9000 word essay. I want to italicise a certain phrase, which appears 198 times during my work. Do I have to go through it and manually highlight/ctrl+I everly single phrase or is there a way to mass-italicise it?
>inb4 why didn't you do this to begin with
I didn't know I needed to, but this is corerct.
maybe you could get a programmer to write a program that takes an input paragraph and take that certain phrase and italicise it everytime its found, im a "beginner" programmer and i cant do this now im feeling down ima go try to figure this out or cry in a corner

Use Control f it'll make it easier to find the phrase

CTRL + F
To automatically find the phrase.
Don't know if it will highlight it or not though.
But after that you can just grind through each one.
Shouldn't take too long.
ctrl+f

don't press ctrl f, instead go to the home section and on the far right click the arrow next to find and choose advanced find. type your word into the search box and then click "find in" and choose main document, and then hit your italics button.

Something like this: (pseudocode)
main(String documentPath) {
Reader reader = new Reader(documentPath);
String line;
while((line = reader.nextLine()) != null) {
if(line.contains("your phrase")) {
insertString(' <i> ',indexOf("yourphrase"));
insertString(' </i> ',indexOf("yourphrase")+10);
}
}
}
P.S. Don't know what the actual encoding for MS word is but that would probably take like 2 minutes to figure out
P.P.S. I'm only posting this in the assumption OP can't program, as a form of taunting.

It's okay, I fucked up anyways, because I forgot to account for the possibility that the phrase appears more than once per line (used to working with databases and spreadsheets).
Open "find and replace". Copy the italicized version of the phrase. Put original phrase in Find. Paste italicized version in Replace. Apply to all. That *should* work off the top of my head.

you can also open advanced find from clicking the down arrow next to the magnifying glass in the navigation window. not sure if there's a hotkey for it.
