How do I rewrite a paper?

The problem isn't so much the actually writing or research, but how do I write the paper to convey the same idea in different words? And still have it better than the first draft? Even when I start with a blank sheet, I fall into using the same vocabulary and structure I used for the previous draft.
>>
Why are you rewriting it? What's the goal?

This is for my master's thesis. I'm trying to write an abstract of about 1000 words. I've rewritten this portion of the thesis three times now, and nothing seems to have changed. Pic related is what I don't understand. How do I purge my brain of the previous iterations?

Okay, but why do you want it to change?

It's hard to help without that. I mean, I can tell you to just go get a thesaurus but that'd probably make for a shit paper.
>>

I need to change it because the abstract is supposed to clearly and concisely tease the premise of the thesis, and right now my abstract does not do that. So, I must rewrite. The main body of the thesis has been no problem for m though.

Read the original out loud. If there is anything that sounds like you would never actually SAY it that way, rephrase it so it sounds more natural.

Good writing is sometimes more formal - i.e., grammatical - than natural speech. But it should not be more artificial.

Thanks, I'll try it.

You can try writibg it backwards, but so that it makes sense. Use lot of synonims, skip one least nevcessary part and then expand next one. It's called plagiarism, and there is nothing to be ashamed about since someone has already written a 95% copy of everything one way or another.

A 1000 word abstract? That's way too long for an abstract (though your field might have different standards).

Just give a quick and concise summary of what the thesis is about. That is what abstracts are for, the people that are too lazy to read your thesis will just read the abstract.

That's not what plagiarism is you retard, and even if it was, that's a high schooler's defense of plagiarism in an academic setting.
