Pests thrive on three things: food, water and shelter
1st remove their food: whatever food you have lying around, crumbs, dust, filth, etc anything really that the bugs can eat remove it, clean that shit, keep it away
2nd remove water sources: same deal as before
3rd remove shelter: harder but not impossible. any small gaps you see, fill them in, because the bugs might call that a home. cover any holes, make any hidden place more visible or remove it
tl;dr clean your house for real. it's the first step towards removing any pests and your exterminator will have a much easier job
