You first have to remember that those conservative and close-minded thinking have to come from somewhere either from experiences or anecdotes, or old wives' tale. If it came from your parents there must be good intention/reason behind those.

Dealing with with difference between you and parents always involve you trying to understand where they're coming from and try to present arguments with cold hard facts without trying to prolong the confrontation which will make it too emotional.
If you're dealing with something subjective or maybe something unprovable with cold hard facts, you need to agree to disagree and go on with your life.
